Working on of the world’s largest panda reserve, volunteers train in caring for these amazing animals before assisting panda keepers and zoologists in the daily running of the panda reserve. Duties for volunteers include preparing food for the pandas, cleaning sleeping areas and gardens, assisting the scientists in collecting behavioural information, and assisting vets in administering medical care.
Before the programme begins volunteers are also offered Mandarin classes in Beijing, an introduction to Chinese culture and sightseeing opportunities. The programme is always popular and offers a unique opportunity to work and learn about these incredible animals on the brink of extinction. It is open to everyone over the age of 17 and starts every month.
In South Africa Greenforce have a number of projects. Volunteers can work with endangered penguins in a sanctuary for injured seabirds assisting vets to feed, and administer medicine to the penguins before releasing them into the wild.
A second project gives volunteers the opportunity to research great white sharks of South Africa’s cape coast. You will get to learn about sharks movements, eat and breeding habits, as well as the opportunity to dive with the sharks from the safety of a metal cage and see them in their natural habitat.
Other opportunities in South Africa include chimpanzee rescue, meerkat research and work as a game ranger in the Kruger National Park looking after all the wildlife including elephants, rhinos and more!
