Description:
The aim of this programme is to empower children in rural communities in Zambia by using sport and physical activities as a vehicle to promote positive, healthy lifestyles. In particular it will address the major concern of HIV/AIDS among Zambian youths. The programme will also focus on health and life skills education and community based sport development.
Volunteers will coach sports such as soccer, netball, volleyball and also start basketball teams. You will also help design and conduct sports clinics, league games and tournaments etc. However, central to all these activities will be to equip these young people with the life skills necessary to promote positive behaviour and avoid HIV/AIDS infection and unwanted pregnancies.
This is one of the more demanding and challenging projects GVI offers, so we are looking for independent and adventurous volunteers. The programme enables volunteers to develop their leadership, coaching and teaching skills and provides practical life experience. Included in the programme is a weekend trip to Victoria Falls as well as a day trip to Lochnivar National Park.
