Description:
As any budding journalist knows, it's tough to break into media. In many cases not only do you have to be able to demonstrate that you can actually write, but also that you can come up with unusual angle - that you can think outside the box. Having any article in your portfolio from an Indian newspaper or experience in your CV from a Ghanaian TV Station can demonstrate that you not only have experience but that you are someone who does things differently.
This programme helps you stand out because rather than making tea during your time at your local newspaper following a journalist around for a week, you went to overseas and actually wrote for a newspaper.
Project locations:
Ghana
In Ghana our projects are based in the Cape Coast area and are well suited to those with an interest in broadcast media. We work with TV and Radio stations in the area and you will be encouraged to work in all areas from production to presenting! You can combine this with time on a newspaper that is produced twice a week to broaden your media or journalism experience.
Tanzania
Our projects in Tanzania are aimed at those interested in TV or Radio work. You'll be working with a major broadcaster in Dar es Salaam on English langauge radio stations and / or TV channels.
India
In India we work with various magazines, newspapers and a TV station in Trivandrum, Kerala so this project is suited to someone with an interest in print journalism or TV work. Much of the media is produced in English and journalists in India have a reputation of being amongst the best in the world so this is certainly going to be a challenging placement!
China
In China we work with English language newspapers, magazines and photography websites. As well as those who are interested in print journalism, those with a keen interest in photography would be suited to this project.
Mexico
We work with both English language newspapers in Guadalajara and, if you have at least intermediate Spanish, Spanish language newspapers, international newswires and TV stations in Guanajuato.
Our Co-ordinator in Mexico is a photographer and can offer basic courses in photography to those on the project in Guanajuato. His work is varied. One day you could be covering a political press conference, the next photographing a local football game or the World Rally Championship so this project is well suited to those with diverse media interests!
