Description:

Classes may sometimes be big but two things are guaranteed to be bigger - the impact you make, and the reward you feel. You will be working in schools alongside teachers to guide students through difficult aspects of their syllabus. Knowledge is a universal currency, especially writing and speaking fluent English. You will soon see the impact you can make across different age-groups and subject areas.

Teaching in Schools in San José, Costa Rica

Although Costa Rica boasts one of the highest literacy rates in Latin America, there is still a large number of children that still cannot read and write, let alone speak English. This is mainly due to a lack off funding, and therefore staffing, within the schools. Many children do not even reach secondary school and the figures for many illiterate and out-of-school children are often neglected. You will begin your placement by assisting local teachers while developing your teaching style, before moving on to teach your own fun and engaging lessons.

Teaching in Schools in Accra, Ghana

In comparison to 'western' standards, the quality and breadth of education in developing-world countries is usually limited. Ghana is no exception and most of the schools are under-funded and under-staffed. However, as a teaching volunteer, your contribution will make a significant difference to the level of education available to many young Ghanaians. Your role will be to offer inspiring and exciting lessons that will improve the literacy, numeracy and communication skills of your class. There is also an emphasis on having fun, especially during more active lessons such as Sport, Art and Drama.

Teaching in Schools in Port Elizabeth, South Africa

Although South Africa is considered to be one of the most developed African nations, there is still a clear imbalance in the educational opportunities available throughout the country. While there are many strong schools available to the richer sections of the population, most of the townships are starved of educational skills and resources. Your will begin the placement assisting existing teachers before moving on to take your own lessons and possibly branch out, usually with the older children, to subjects such as Maths, Science, Design and Sport.
