Working with disadvantaged children in Romania

Vacancy: Working with disadvantaged children in Romania
Company: MondoChallenge
Category: Gap year projects (Community development, Teaching English, Childcare)

Description:

Romania is one of the last reserves of Europe's traditional, rustic lifestyle. Its scenic and isolated villages are nestled into green valleys amongst breathtaking mountains. The communities are friendly and many of the people are shepherds relying for transport on horse-drawn carts. At the heart of the country is Transylvania, bordered on three sides by the spectacular Carpathian Mountains, and famed for its fabled vampires and haunted castles.

We have set up brand new programmes for volunteers to work mainly with traditional Hungarian and Chango ethnic groups, teaching and looking after orphans and disadvantaged women and children.

MondoChallenge have several small scale projects in the Transylvanian region, in villages scattered in and around Miercurea Ciuc, the capital of Szekely land and near Tirgu Mures in Lokod. Volunteers can work in homes for vulnerable women and children in a variety of locations, with tasks including teaching, organising activities and providing fun, support and general human contact. Accommodation for volunteers is provided free with local families.
