Gap years in Africa

There are many projects and programs that enable gap year takers to make a small difference in Africa, see the links below to find out more.

Asia

Gap year in Asia

Asia is very rich in natural resources but has many areas of extreme poverty. Asia's surging economic growth has helped to reduce levels of poverty but there are still a huge number of people living on less than £1.50 a day. It has also been hit in recent years by civil conflict and a string of destructive natural disasters leaving countries like Thailand in urgent need of health care, nutrition, clean water/sanitation and educational resources. These problems are tackled on a micro scale by gap year volunteers on practical and professional placements. The economies of countries like China provide opportunities for TEFL related gap year placements.

Australasia

Gap year in Australia and Oceania

One of the first destinations to come to mind when considering a year out travelling is undoubtedly Australia. Australia is the sixth largest country in the world. It's about the same size as the 48 mainland states of the USA and 50 per cent larger than Europe. Australia boasts over 10,000 beaches - more than any other nation and is home to around 40 million kangaroos!

Europe

Gap year in Europe

The massive variety of Europe and deep rooted and fascinating blend of cultures make it a great place to spend time travelling. There are hundreds of possibilities and thanks to the cheap airlines Europe is cheaply accessible from the UK. But don't forget to check out your InterRail options as well.

North America

Gap year in Canada or the USA

The mountainous west United States of America and Canada host a multitude of ski instructor, snowboard instructor courses in some of the worlds greatest ski resorts. Or the ever popular summer camp jobs are ideal for travellers in terms of ease of getting a visa and a foot in the door. If you are really lucky you might get to see the midnight sun from Greenland, the worlds largest island.

South America

Gap year in South America

South America is a continent situated in the western hemisphere and, mostly, the southern hemisphere, bordered on the west by the Pacific Ocean and on the north and east by the Atlantic Ocean; North America and the Caribbean Sea lie to the northwest.
