TEFL gap years
Many areas in the world have a serious need for volunteer and native speaking English teachers in their schools. There is lots of scope for voluntary teachers, though many schools have all the modern conveniences, often state schools receive very little funding and are short on materials and the teachers to use them – so volunteers are normally very welcome. There are also paid jobs available all over the world for English teachers.
Volunteering to teach English with voluntary organisation is obviously the easiest way into this field. With many placements you receive free English language teacher training. Doing a TEFL course will give you both the confidence to face your first day of class, and the practical skills and activities that you need to succeed in the classroom.
Teaching English placements are open to just about any age group between 18 to 80.
Insurance, TEFL training for teaching placements, and language lessons are provided for
free. If you would like to earn money teaching you should take a look at the
TEFL section (TEFL courses,
TEFL jobs).
Japan is
still a very popular place but opportunities exist all over the world.
If English is your mother tongue you are usually at an advantage.
