When selecting a tax back agency, make sure you are offered the following:
- The agency should estimate your refund for free once you provide your earnings and tax information. Use the online auto estimator provided by Taxback.com for an immediate estimate.
- Look for an agency that offers a “no refund no fee” service. (If you know you are not entitled to a refund but want them to file a return for you anyway there will probably be an admin charge)
- The agency should do everything for you: organize your documents; file your return; obtain the cheque; liaise with the tax office and keep you up to date with progress. Don’t choose an agency that simply offers to file your return, leaving you to deal with the tax office.
- You should be able to track your tax claim online, so you can easily keep up to date with progress. (Taxback provide this via your customer account. You can also download forms for other tax countries and chat online with a tax representative.)
- An agency should be fully up to date with allowances, reliefs, international tax treaties, and deductions from the labour codes specific to each tax country, because these all contribute to the maximum amount you can claim. Current knowledge is essential to make sure that nothing gets missed.
- If you have lost your P60 or a P45, (which you need for your claim) an agency should provide a retrieval service to sort this out for you.
