All positions are available to graduates from our TEFL England courses and there is no placement fee.
Most teaching English jobs abroad are in privately-owned schools, normally quite small with a handful of teachers. You'll find that class numbers are up to 18 students. However, in Asia you could find class sizes are up to 50! The students may have from 2 - 10 hours a week depending on the level and needs of the student. Most of the smaller schools will not advertise positions on the internet, but rely on agencies to recruit teachers or finding teachers by word-of-mouth and quite often from teachers walking off the street.
The internet can be a good source for finding work, a lot of schools advertise their vacancies here, but most don't have the money or facilities to do so.
Teaching in the UK at summer schools can be a great way to get some experience, though the work is usually only during the seasonal periods.You can get short contracts from as little as 2 weeks, so it can be quite a convenient start to your TEFL career.
Voluntary teaching in the UK is growing in demand and you could find classes at your local community centres or colleges or even church groups. There are also opportunities for teaching one-to-one lessons, you just need to get your name out there in local cafes, shops or web sites.
Voluntary teaching overseas is also quite popular. You can get short-term placements of 2 - 4 months in countries like India, Nepal and African countries. Teaching there is more challenging in terms of resources and will appeal to the more creative and adventurous first-time TEFL teachers. There are a number of agencies you can apply to (for a fee!) or you could try applying to the projects direct, a good internet search should get you want you want.
