Description
Taking part in a care project gives you the opportunity to work with disadvantaged children in a range of different settings. This project runs in all of the 26 countries in which Projects Abroad runs volunteer projects across Africa, Asia, Latin America, Eastern Europe and the South Pacific.
Our volunteers can work in orphanages, daycare centres, kindergartens or with street children, special needs or children affected by HIV. There are many possibilities, please let us know if there is something particular you are interested in.
In orphanages volunteers can give children of all ages the special attention they need. You can make a positive impact on the lives of less fortunate children by teaching them basic language skills and life skills that parents normally teach. Volunteers are also involved in helping out the often overworked local staff with the day-to-day tasks such as feeding, dressing and washing the kids.
In daycare centres volunteers can get involved in informal teaching as well as helping young children develop life skills. Working alongside local staff, volunteers get a chance to put their own talents to best use. In kindergartens volunteers are involved in organising activities for the children and teaching them games (as well as learning their games!).
For the strong minded volunteer you can work with special needs, street children or children affected by HIV. Although tough at times, these projects are really rewarding and worthwhile, these are kids who really need support and encouragement; a little goes a long way here.
All of our care projects are fitted to suit you- if you have any particular interests (drama, dance, sport, song, music etc) please let us know and you can incorporate this into your project. Our dedicated staff as well as local partners do their best to ensure you get the most out of your time abroad and make a difference, big or small, in the life of a child. If you want you can also focus on informal teaching or basic medicine as part of your care project, or you could take either of these as a project on their own.
Volunteers can give support, attention and affection to young children who are not lucky to have the resources we too often take for granted. Care projects are worthwhile and the more a volunteer puts in, the more rewarding and beneficial their work will be.
Conditions are often basic in the placements but you'd be surprised what a bit of creativity and enthusiasm can achieve. Though the work can be challenging at times, the strength and resilience of the children will inspire you to push on and create memories to last a lifetime.

While on a Care project you will be given full support from our staff, partners and host-families and of course- the other volunteers from all over the world who quickly become a close network to work, travel and socialise with. Volunteers have weekends off to travel the country and visit local attractions, our staff often arrange weekend trips and other social events with volunteers.
