Conserve wildlife: volunteer in South Africa

Description

Got a passion for animals? Keen to help threatened species in South Africa? Our 2 to 4.5-week wildlife protection programmes give you the chance of a lifetime: to work directly in animal conservation in South Africa.

As a wildlife volunteer, you will be active in the daily work at the project. Whether you are feeding the animals, counting or researching various species, raising public awareness about the environment, assisting veterinarians, bottle-feeding baby lions, caring for sick animals, helping with maintenance work, preventing erosion, or completing other general tasks, your time in South Africa is sure to be a wild ride!

Wildlife Projects:

Antelope Project: Sable Ranch

This 4000 hectare ranch area is home to an unbelievable variety of wildlife: you will find antelopes, hippopotamuses, leopards, bison, giraffes, rhinoceroses, and kudus here. Your work will be driven by wildlife conservation and research.

Lion Project

Your main job in the lion research project will be to care for lions and their cubs. This project specialises in breeding lions and runs a long-term study for the largest South African veterinary institute. It is also an environmental education centre.

Cheetah Project

This private research and breeding station for endangered animals in South Africa has a focus on cheetahs and leopards, as well as the reintroduction of lions to the 8300 hectare land area. You will assist with the research project, observing the animals, examining fences, and maintaining the reserve.

Kruger National Park

Your work in the Eco-Reserve Camp at Kruger National Park will be focused on nature conservation and wildlife and reserve management. From the camp, you will have an unbelievable view of herds of elephants and bison.

Monkey Project

In this rehabilitation centre, you will help to care for and research monkeys before reintroducing them to the wild. The project also cares for injured and orphaned animals, including eagles and snakes.
